Abstract

Bhagat Singh, perhaps India’s best known revolutionary, has been the subject of a number of biopics.
More often than not, these films have presented Singh as a romantic revolutionary, full of patriotism but
short of intellectual vigour. However, Raj Kumar Santoshi’s 2002 film, The Legend of Bhagat Singh,
highlighted the intellect and ideas of Bhagat Singh and his Comrades. In the paper, I discuss the
intellectual development of Bhagat Singh and his Comrades as depicted in the movie and the role of the
Revolutionaries in the freedom struggle of India.
